BEAUTY BUST Let's find out how many serial makeup offenders we have out there... feel free to fess up and come out of hiding! especially the makeup artists out there who get paid to commit these horrific crimes. When we tell people we are makeup artists, almost immediately, they hide their faces or say something along the lines of ‘ Oh my God don't look at my face' . It seems that the moment they realize a person who applies makeup for a living is in the room, they become ashamed of what they have done with their faces that morning. The truth is, most of the time, the makeup we see is generally not the complete disaster they make it out to be… but sometimes it is, and it doesn't take a makeup artist to see it! To avoid becoming the person people take a second look at on the street ( in the wrong kind of way ) make sure you are not an offender of one of the following crimes; 1. The foundation line We all know someone (or have perhaps been that someone ) who has worn foundation that is a few shades too dark for them! Girls… let's get one thing straight here…. no one…, NO ONE, looks good with an orange line that separates their face from their neck! Why do people do this? Either they want to look more tanned than they really are or they believe that using a darker colored foundation will help disguise bad skin or scars. makeup artists las vegas What can you do if you have identified this as yourself? Firstly, if you are using your wrong colour foundation to give yourself a bit more ‘color' try this instead; Match your foundation perfectly to your skin colour, once you have your flawless base you can then choose a powder that is slightly darker than your skin colour. Powder is a lot easier to blend down your neck and décolletage than it is to smear foundation all over ! If you a still feeling like you need a bit more of a tan, then you can take out your bronzer and apply in the appropriate area. Secondly, if you are committing this crime because you believe it will help you cover bad skin or scaring, think again! The best way to cover flaws on the skin is to not draw any extra attention to it! Once again, match your foundation perfectly to your skin, however this time try using a different formula. If you are finding that your usual liquid foundation isn't giving you the coverage you want, then try switching to a stick foundation. las vegas makeup artists 2. Clumpy eyelashes Never a good look! It's actually quite scary to bump into someone who has overloaded their eye lashes with mascara making them chunky and clumped together. Why do people do this? Either they believe that this is creating more ‘Volume' or they haven't changed their mascara is a few years! What you can do if you have identified this as yourself? If you believe that this technique of layering your mascara is giving you more volume… in a way you are right because your lashes will be a lot thicker… however there are many other ways to create beautiful thick lashes than to cake on mascara making your eyelashes look like spider webs! Try using a volumizing mascara… two coats are more than enough.. or if you just can't get enough then false lashes might be for you! They may be fake but they will look a whole lot better than makeup crime number 2! If you are still using the same mascara that aunt Judy gave you for Christmas the same year you got your braces taken off you might like to think about replacing it! Mascara needs to be replaced every two months! Even if it hasn't run out. Mascara breeds bacteria because it is being used on your eyes every day so if you are not regularly replacing your mascara you may be doing more damage to your eyes than good! 3. Dark lip liner light lips Girls, let's just remember which decade we are in, shall we? Until the 80's/90's come back into fashion we don't need to worry about embracing this technique of using dark lip liner with a pale lipstick! The only people who can ignore this rule are drag queens. Not a drag queen? Then read on! Why do people do this? There is only one reason why people would commit such a crime, and that is, they are stuck in the early 90's ! vegas makeup What can you do if you have identified this as yourself? You may think it looks good because that's the way you have been doing it for as long as you can remember but let me just help you by making it clear... it does NOT look good... there we said it... and we are all thinking it, so embrace change and go and find yourself a lip liner and lipstick that work together in harmony (and we don't mean like ebony and ivory)! makeup vegas 4. Cat flicks What are cat flicks? You may be committing this crime without even knowing the name of it ! Cat flicks are the over extension of your upper eyeliner. Think Amy Winehouse ! A small extension is often acceptable, depending on the eye shape, but let's not go overboard girls, it's not cool. Why Do people do this? Many people who attempt cat flicks do so because they are under the illusion that it will make them look like they have cat shaped eyes... which is what many of us want ! Another reason could be that they are trying to follow the 'come and go' trends of the catwalk. Let me just put it out there in case you haven't noticed... what goes on on the catwalk stays on the catwalk! Catwalk trends are not to be taken too seriously, you don't see people walking down the street dressed in aluminium foil with fish bowls on their heads! The same goes for catwalk trends of fashion and makeup artistry, they are always adapted into a "ready to wear" collection for everyday life and you are not expected to wear what you see on the catwalk! Other reasons could also include; trying to be like Audrey Hepburn, trying to be like Amy Winehouse, watching too much bewitched, being a drag queen or being a geisha. What can you do if you have identified this as yourself? Take it back a notch... or two. As stated previously, a small extension is acceptable but note the word 'small' in this sentence. It is also important if you wish to stick with this look that you don't use liquid eyeliner. Use only a charcoal pencil and blend into a smoky line so that it's not an overly obvious line that looks like it's been drawn on your eyes by your 6yr old daughter with a sharpie! vegas makeup artist 5. Drawn-On Eye Brows This could really come under its own segment of eyebrow disasters. Drawn on eyebrows, including tattooed eyebrows and also sparse eyebrows that have not been pencilled in are all NO GO zones. Let me explain a little further for you in case you are wondering how to judge yourself right now. Drawn on eyebrows are not ok. These are the kind of eyebrows that are drawn on with an eyebrow or eyeliner pencil, just drawn on, just like drawing a line on a piece of paper with a pencil. The problem here is that they don't look like eyebrows they look like drawn on lines and almost all of the time they are completely the wrong color ( for some reason the older ladies like to draw theirs on dark blue... perhaps the same reason ladies like to dye their hair absurd colours when they get older?) secondly tattooed eyebrows are just the same as these drawn on eyebrows only they are there forever and thirdly if your eyebrows are sparse and un shapely and you don't fill them in (the right way) then there is also a problem. Don't be fooled though and think you have gotten away with it because you have the most perfect eyebrows! Everybody needs some kind of eyebrow maintenance. Most people need to feather a tiny bit of eyebrow pencil through theirs. vegas makeup artists Why Do People Do This? This crime come from being un-educated or from the long generational history behind us that unfortunately for some families/ cultures has not been broken! What Can you do if you have identified this as yourself? If you have already had your eyebrows tattooed, sorry to say... there is not too much you can do about it now! If you are reading this blog on your iphone in the waiting room of the tattoo parlour stand up, walk out and never return! If you have a serious habit of drawing your eyebrows on with a pencil, know this... eyebrow pencils are never really made to be applied straight to the skin! Maybe you could get away with lightly feathering in a few strokes with a very, very thin pencil directly onto the skin so long as the pencil matches the colour of the rest of your hairs exactly, however, the best way to apply pencil to your brows is by using an angle brush. Angle brushes are sold everywhere. It doesn't have to be the best most expensive brush to do the job (although you will never have to replace a good quality brush). Brush the angle brush against the pencil to grab the colour and feather the brush through the brows to give you the most natural looking perfect brows. Same goes for those who have sparse or uneven or over tweezed brows. Did you know that 90% of expression is read from your eyebrows? With unfinished eyebrows the whole face is unfinished so pick up an angle brush and an eyebrow pencil and start feathering girls! |
